Oil on Masonite, 29 x 45 in., in a molded and painted giltwood frame. Condition: Very good. Note: This painting depicts the whaling bark Josephine leaving Point Barrow, Alaska, on August 18th, 1889. The other ships in the painting are, left to right, Wanderer, U.S. revenue cutter Bear , the J.H. Howland, Josephine, and Belvedere. Josephine was built at Bath, Maine, in 1877. Her home port was New Bedford, Massachusetts.
