Lemuel D. Eldred (Massachusetts and New York City, 1848-1921) Whaleships Rousseau and Desdemona at New Bedford Harbor, New Bedford, Massachusetts. Inscribed "L.D. Eldred" in pencil l.r., inscribed "'L.D. Eldred -1906" l.l. Etching, sight size 19 x 30 in., in a period molded oak frame. Condition: Good , minor toning, not examined out of frame. Note: Lemuel D. Eldred was born in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, and worked with his friend William Bradford there and in New York City. He kept a studio in Boston and later in Bradford's old studio in Fairhaven. His works are in several museums including the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts, the Kendall Whaling Museum, Old Dartmouth Historical Society, and in several private collections. Framer's inscription on backing paper: "Acid free Framing and the print is de-acified."
