Two Small Needlework Samplers, America, early 19th century, worked in silk threads on a linen ground, the first sampler with rows of alphabets, the inscription "wrought by Merty Smith," and a house, potted plant, trees, and vegetation, 7 3/8 x 10 1/4; the second with six rows of alphabets stitched with blue threads, 6 x 7 in., (both with toning, fading, and minor stains), in later molded wood frames.
