Needlework Sampler, "By VROE ... Anno 1791," Netherlands, stitched in silk threads on a linen ground, central design of a yellow building with a blue roof surrounded by various fruit, foliate, animal, and human motifs, foliate border, (fading, toning, very minor losses, tack holes, very minor staining), 20 x 19 1/2 in., in a later molded wood frame. Provenance: Sold with this lot is a letter from Betty Ring attesting to the lot's origin, and two photocopies of Dutch samplers of similar design.
