Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain Soup Bowl, Bowl, and Plate, 18th century, deep round bowl, octagonal soup plate and a salad/dinner plate centered with large armorial crests, gilt spearhead borders, (damage to soup plate), bowl ht. 3 1/4, dia. 8 5/8-9 in. Note: This porcelain was reportedly made for John Whelan, Norfolk, England, on his marriage in 1741 to Ann, daughter of William Shelton. Plate- gilt wear to bowl center and cavetto; bowl- enamel and gilt wear to central rampant lion motif, 2 in. hairline from rim going through one of the two exterior armorial motifs (tie other one is fine); soup plate- two loose segments fit to loss area, some surface grim retained on rough areas to clear glaze on cavetto.
