Pair of Portrait Miniatures of Orlando Marshall and His Wife Eliza, attributed to J. Evans, New England, c. 1826, unsigned, the subjects identified on the reverse, watercolor on card, 4 x 2 3/8 in., in later matching cast gilt-brass easel frames, (toning, small paint loss on Eliza's sleeve), the portraits are accompanied by two coin silver tablespoons, four teaspoons, and a salt spoon, which descended through the family of the sitters, approx. 4.5 troy oz. Provenance: By family descent to George Albert Lewis, Jr. of Naugatuck, Connecticut, who was prominent in the development of the rubber industry (Marshall-Rossiter-Lewis family names). Orlando Marshall, was born January 28, 1805 in Dublin, New Hampshire. He married Eliza Cunningham Mansur, (b. October 28, 1807) on September 18, 1826, and resided in New Ipswich, New Hampshire where Orlando was a master mechanic in the village mill. Together they had eight children. Orlando died January 13, 1869, and Eliza died in 1898. Photocopied genealogy accompanies the lot. Portraits not laid down.
