The Burkholder Family Carved Walnut Tall Case Clock, George Hoff, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, late 18th century, the scrolled cresting terminating in carved rosettes above the 14-in. white-painted, polychrome and gilt dial with moon's age indicator in the arch, and floral spandrels, with hands indicating the date, hours, minutes, and seconds inscribed "George Hoff/Lancaster," and brass eight-day weight-driven movement, with three turned wooden finials, three keys, a winder, pendulum, and two brass-cased lead weights, original surface, (minor imperfections), ht. 98 in. Provenance: According to family history, this clock descended to John Burkholder (1803-1843) and then to the current owner through six generations of the Burkholder family, farmers in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
