Silver Ladle, John Burger, New York City, late 18th century, round bowl with slashed drop, pointed down-turned handle tip with bright-cut engraved oval, bellflower, and monogram, maker's mark on handle with impressed "Burger" in script in a conforming rectangle, lg. 14 1/4 in., approx. 6 troy oz. Provenance: Family descent of original owner Maria Theresa Tomlinson (1789-1868), wife of Edwin Elisha Lewis and the daughter of Hon. David Bacon Thomlinson, judge and senator from Connecticut and his wife Lorena Bacon; to George A. Lewis, Jr., of Naugatuck, Connecticut.
