Lee, Robert E. (1807-1870), Autograph letter signed, one page, Lexington, 20th April, 1867, as President of Washington College, to the Honorable Frank Fuller, politely declining the opportunity to speak a the Peabody Institute of New York on the matters of the misunderstanding between the North and South, "which I fear is still destined to involve the country in greater calamities", matted with etching, 9 3/4 x 8 in., (slightly faded, tape remnant along verso of top edge).
