(Lincoln, Abraham (1809-1865)), His Copy, Congressional Directory for the First Session of the Thirteenth Congress of the United States of America , Washington: J. and G.S. Gideon, 1848, original blue wraps, signed "A. Lincoln MC" to upper right corner, with engraved plates with seating plans of the Senate chamber and House of Representatives, set in frame with photographic portrait, 8vo, (spine chipped, edges lightly chipped, two small punch holes [not affecting text], one with ribbon tied through, pamphlet accessible in frame). Note: This volume is signed in Lincoln's capacity as Congressman from the State of Illinois, the sole Whig representing that state. He stood only one term in Congress, serving on the House Committee on Expenditures in the War Department. This signed volume is an historically important survival from Lincoln's time in Washington in 1847-49, and is a rare example of printed works signed by the sixteenth President.
