Shibayama-style Censer, Japan, 19th century, hexagonal, gilt-mounted, with reserves decorated in the typical style with birds, flowering branches, and rocks, the shoulder, raised foot, and cover with enamel floral design, six elephant and ring lugs, the cover surmounted with an eagle perched on rocks, incised signature on the base "ko shin... bi sei hitsu," ht. 12 1/4 in. minor scratches and slight dent to edge of cover; repairs to the lacquer ground on each reserve; loses to enamel flowers
