Victorian Mother-of-pearl-inlaid Black Lacquer Lap Desk, England, mid-19th century, of typical form, the slant lid opening to red velvet-inset writing surface over a large open compartment, and various smaller compartments fitted for writing implements, unmarked, ht. 4 1/2, wd. 15, dp. 10 7/8 in. Loss to bottom left corner. Scattered loss to mother-of-pearl. Rear hinges and screws replaced and stripped. Velvet trimmed along fold. Lacking key.
