Commedia dell'Arte Needlework, France, c. 1690, wool and silk, depicting the characters Harlequin, Il Dottore, and Scaramouche performing before an audience on an outdoor stage, framed, 22 1/4 x 15 1/4 in. Provenance: Purchased from Benjamin Ginsburg Antiquary, New York. N. B The figures are based on 17th century prints of Commedia dell'Arte characters. Restored, with scattered areas of loss and holes, particularly to upper right corner.
