Mid 19th century. Victorian papier mache mother of pearl inlaid sewing stand with round hinged top decorated with flowers and leaves with scalloped edge that lifts to reveal removable circular pink velvet lined compartment tray for sewing wares within (some sewing implements included). Additional gilt and mother of pearl floral and swag decoration throughout stand including on apron, scalloped edging, turned wood stand and pedestal base raised on four legs terminating on wheeled casters. Lockplate stamped "VR PATENT". Height 30.5", diameter 17". Provenance: Sotheby's New York: European Works of Art & English Furniture, January 27, 2000 as Lot 243 whereby acquired by Mrs. Dorothy Edwards, Atlanta, Georgia.
