American School, 19th Century Three Portrait Miniatures. Unsigned. The first two possibly painted by Elizabeth Way Champlain (1771-1825, also known as Betsey Way) who was born and lived in New London, Connecticut and sister of miniaturist Mary Way, watercolor on ivory oval profile portrait of a young woman wearing a comb in her upswept hair, sight size 2 x 1 3/4, in a black lacquer frame with gilt-brass mat; a watercolor on paper profile portrait of a little girl in a white gown, 2 x 1 5/8 in., in a lacquered wood frame with a gilt-brass mat; a watercolor on ivory portrait of a young man, 1 3/8 x 1 1/4, in a gilt-brass floral openwork frame; (imperfections). Young woman- small paint smudge to top of head, few superfluous specks to face. Young man- Very good. Little girl-Toning, paper slightly rippled.
