Attributed to Betsy Lathrop (American, 19th Century) Joseph's Dream. Genesis 37 v. 7 & 9. Unsigned, the artist identified and work dated in inscriptions on a label affixed to the backboard "Painted by Aunt Betsy Lathrope in -1812-"; titled below. Watercolor on paper, heightened with pinpricks, oval picture, 6 x 8 in., in a period mahogany veneer frame. Condition: Toning, mat stains, stains on corners hidden under mat. Provenance: Walter Backofen. Not laid down, the paper has four old brownish spots on each corner from earlier gluing to mat or paper.
