John Frederick Miller (English, 1759-96) Three Illustrations of Penguins, from Cimelia Physica: Figures of rare and curious quadrupeds, birds, &c. together with several of the most elegant plants, published 1796, identified in inscriptions, hand colored engravings of' Aptenodytes Antarctica, Aptenodytes Imagellanica, and Aptenodytes Crestata, sight sizes approx. 17 3/4 x 11 3/4 in., in later molded wood frames. Condition: Minor light stains and scattered foxing, not examined out of frames. Each illustration is framed separately. The frames measure 27 1/4 x 21 1/4 in. We have not taken them out of the frames but there is enough rippling showing that would indicate they are not laid down. It appears they have been cleaned, but not so in that they look bleached. There is a generous amount of space beyond the plate marks, and just some minor toning and a few minor superfluous stray marks.
