Domaine de la Romanee Conti Montrachet 1978 Cote de Beaune u: 3. 5cm, nicked capsule at top, lighly damp stained label Bottle number 000592 "Golden yellow color. When first opened, there were slight hints of oxidation yet with air, they blew off to reveal ripe, exotic and fully mature aromas that display completely secondary characteristics (but no sous bois) and lead to rich, full and vibrant full-bodied flavors blessed with buckets of dry extract that are rich to the point of opulence yet the acidity is more than sufficient to maintain excellent balance. For my taste, this has reached its plateau and I see no reason to hold it further; that said, there is no reason to rush to drink up either. In short, a stellar vintage even by the incredibly high standards of this wine. Tasted three times with relatively consistent notes save for one slightly oxidized bottle that may have suffered by less than perfect storage.
