Italian Violin, c. 1700, School of Andrea Guarneri, possibly composite, length of back 355 mm, with case. Button graft, repaired fractures to lower treble bout of back, rib fracture near end pin, repaired saddle fracture ( bass side of top, approx. 3 cm), some small repaired hairline fractures at upper and lower edges of top. Corners of top are altered to fit rib structure, so it is believed that the top is by the same maker for another instrument, or by another maker of the same period. Spruce linings, willow blocks. Inlaid soundpost patch. Inside of top is inlaid in upper block area, extending to area between upper corners for arching support.
