Aiden Lassell Ripley (American, 1896-1969) Middle Dam on the Rapid River, Western Maine Signed and inscribed "A. Lassell Ripley ©" l.l., identified on two labels from the Vose Galleries of Boston and on a detached paper in the artist's hand, all affixed to the backing. Watercolor on paper, sheet size 15 x 21 1/2 in. (38.0 x 54.7 cm), framed. Condition: Gentle toning to edges, tack holes to each corner and to l.c. edge, hinged at top edge in two places to backing mat, and lightly secured at lower corners with archival tape. The label on grey paper written in pencil in the artist's hand was cut from a larger sheet and affixed to the new foamcore frame backing. It reads, "'Middle dam'/© A. Lassell Ripley/250." The labels from Vose Galleries are of two different vintages, the first listing their address as 559 Boylston Street, Boston 16, and the second listing their address at 238 Newbury Street. The earlier label was was cut from an old backing. The foamcore backing also bears a label from Guido Frame Studio, Boston. Small fox mark u.r. edge, toning and scattered minor foxing to the reverse.
