Jane Peterson (American, 1876-1965) Selection of Ephemera, Including Two Sketchbooks and Five Personal Letters, Exhibition Leaflets and Newspaper Clippings Condition: Small sketchbook with toning, scattered staining and paper losses; large sketchbook with toning, paper losses, weakened binding; letters with minor toning and losses; newspaper clipping with toning. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner from the Brust family, owners of the Peterson family home in Elgin, Illinois. The papers were discovered in the attic of the house by the Brusts. The house, which had been struck by lightning and sat unoccupied for about ten years, was purchased by the Brusts from the Peterson/Beck family, c. 1960. Small sketchbook without covers, including 27 pages with perforated margins, page size 3-1/4 x 5-1/4 in., mainly figure studies relating to cafe scenes, some pages blank, some pages detached from binding; Sketchbook with cover inscribed "J.C. Peterson," size 8-1/4 x 6-3/4 in., 92 pages plus front and back covers, including 3 tipped-in monotypes and 4 tipped-in silhouettes, with sketches dated (18)99, 1900, and 1901, some pages blank.
