John C. Traynor (American, b. 1961) Two New England Landscapes: Mt. Mansfield, Vermont and Farm View, Probably Vermont Mansfield signed and dated "John C. Traynor 93" l.r., identified on a label from The Copley Society of Boston on the reverse, oil on canvas; Farm signed and dated "John C. Traynor 94" l.r., oil on Masonite; sizes to 24 x 30 in. (61.0 x 76.2 cm), both framed. Condition: Minor surface grime. Farm size 11 x 14 in., signed and dated l.r. "John C. Traynor 94." Mt. Mansfield size 24 x 30 in., signed and dated l.r. "John C. Traynor 93" There are two labels from The Copley Society of Boston associated with the Mt. Mansfield painting, each giving a different title. The label affixed to the frame reads "New England Landscape/oil on canvas 1994." This date conflicts with the date on the painting. The second label is detached, tucked under the stretcher, and lists the title as "MT MANSFIELD VT." Given the conflicting dates, it is thought that the label on the frame actually refers to a different painting, the frame having been re-used for the present work.
