Hermann Ottomar Herzog (German/American, 1832-1932) Fisherman on a Mountain Lake Signed "H. Herzog" l.l. Oil on canvas, 19 x 24 in. (48.0 x 60.7 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, scattered retouch, fine stable craquelure. With a label from J. W. Tyler Picture Frames, Washington, D.C., on the back of the frame. Lined and stretched on a new stretcher. Craquelure is mainly to the sky and appears fine and stable. No signs of significant repair or retouch visible under UV light. There are some broad washes of retouch to the sky, appearing slightly more dense at u.r. Scattered minor dots of retouch (about 5) to sky u.c., and a few dots at l.l. corner. Possible areas of older retouch located along the lower left vertical edge in an area measuring 8 inches high and 2-1/2 inches in from the side, with a second similar horizontal area l.c. measuring about 4 inches across and about 2 inches up from the bottom edge. However there are no signs of a repaired tear or significant restoration or retouch in either of these areas.
