Italian School, 16th Century Style Portrait of a Cardinal Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 28 7/8 x 24 1/16 in. (73.5 x 61.1 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, scattered minor paint losses. The lining is adhered with wax. The work is probably 19th century. Craquelure overall with evidence of old retouch, small repair (1/2 in. vertical) to hat in center with retouch there and to u.r. corner of hat. Probable older restoration to background. A few minor dots of retouch to robes, with small paint loss to robe at figure's left shoulder and to hat at u.r. corner. Heavily varnished.
