Marc Chagall (French/Russian, 1887-1985) Four Plates from BIBLE, published in 1958: Crossing of the Jordan , plate 44; David on the Mount of Olives , plate 71; Solomon Receiving the Queen of Sheba , plate 80; and The Prophecy of Jerusalem , plate 90, each from the edition of 100 (Cramer, 30). Each initialed "M. Ch." in pencil l.r. and numbered "50/100" in pencil l.l. Three with labels from Kanegis Gallery, Boston, on the backing. Etchings with hand-coloring on paper, plate sizes to 12 3/4 x 9 3/4 in. (32.3 x 24.5 cm), framed. Condition: Visible margins 1/2 inch or more, gentle toning, not examined out of frames. Framed dimensions are 22-3/4 x 17-3/4 x 1-1/4 in. Sheet sizes approximately 20-3/4 x 15-1/4 inches. Hinged at top to backing mats. No inscriptions on the reverse. All light struck and gently toned, with Crossing the Jordan showing less light exposure than the other three prints. David with stain to mat l.r. corner that does not affect the print. Prophesy also tacked down at center of right margin, in addition to the top hinges. Sheba with rippling to margins.
