Horstmann & Sons, New York, and Philadelphia, 1843-62, single-edged blade with 12-in. false edge, etched with a panoply of arms, eagle and shield, flags, EPLURIBUS UNUM" on a banner, and "U.S." interspersed with scrolled floral and foliate designs, marked "W. H. Horstmann/& Sons/Philadelphia," the top of the blade is etched "IRON PROOF," double strand and twisted wire wrapped shagreen grip, the iron guard with pierced spreadwing eagle design, iron scabbard, sword belt hook and remnants of silk sash, blade lg. 32 1/2, overall lg. 39 1/2 in.
