Daniel Burnap Cherry Tall Clock, East Windsor, Connecticut, c. 1785, engraved sheet brass silvered dial signed in the arch Daniel Burnap, East Windsor , recessed seconds and calendar dials, Roman numerals and overall decorative engraved raffles, stylized pagoda hood with three turned finials, fluted free-standing columns flanking the arched and glazed hood door, fluted quarter columns flanking the serpentine top waist door, two-stage base molding and ogee feet, eight-day time and strike movement with dead-beat escapement, wooden pendulum rod, brass-faced bob and two cast iron weights, ht. 88 1/2 in. Note: Daniel Burnap (1759-1838) was a clockmaker, instrument maker, silversmith and brass founder and remains very well documented in the definitive work by Penrose Hoopes, The Shop Records of Daniel Burnap, Clockmaker . Burnap's Memorandum Book, wheel-cutting engine, tools and casting patterns are in the collections of the Connecticut Historical Society. The ogee feet and associated blocking are replacements, case refinished, dial resilvered by traditional methods, period blued steel hands, weights and pendulum.
