Ruskin Pottery Silver Overlay Covered Jar Art pottery and silver England, early 20th century Circular top pierced for aromatic ventilation, cover and base in purple-red crystalline glaze with fine silver overlay of flowers and vines, pottery marked on base, Ruskin pottery 1908, silver marked Shreve Crump & Low Co. Fine Silver 999 over 1000, ht. 6 1/2 in. Note: The Ruskin Pottery was started by William Howson Taylor, the pottery's name paid homage to John Ruskin of the English Arts and Crafts Movement. Taylor developed Ruskin pottery glazes with influence from pottery of the Sung and Ming dynasties. The pottery stopped production in 1933, and by 1935 the glaze recipes had been destroyed.
