Two Regency Wood Sewing Boxes, England, early 19th century, one rectangular with intarsia inlay and burl veneers to case, the hinged top with view of a ruin bordered by floral garlands, the sides with bands of geometric decoration, enclosing removable fitted tray over a fold-out writing surface and inkwell, ht. 5 1/8, wd. 10, dp. 8 1/2; the other casket-from, with central scene of a putto adorning a seated woman with flowers to hinged lid, with bands of penwork foliage, on four paw feet, enclosing removable fitted tray over open compartment, ht. 6, wd. 11, dp. 9 in. Each with horizontal shrinkage cracks to lid and overall usage wear to exterior and interior compartments. Intarsia-inlaid example with scattered loss to inlay and veneer and lacking key escutcheon. Penwork example with dent to front right foot and later varnishing. Both lacking keys.
