Patinated Bronze, Gilt-bronze, and Marble Mantel Clock, France, 19th century, the polychrome enameled dial displaying hour, minute, and date in Arabic numerals, marked "Ridel a Paris," adorned with a eagle above, a male figure scribing and a female figure reading, and a relief panel of figures making a burnt offering, on marble base frieze-decorated with sphinxes, on four raised feet, ht. 21, wd. 26 in. Not guaranteed to be in running order. Significant all-over surface grime. Dial with no apparent restorations, a 1/4 in. chip to bottom edge, and a 1/2 in. abrasion. Scattered spots of tarnish and discoloration to gilding, not re-gilded. Figures with uniform black/brown patination. Marble base with scattered chips and nicks to edges. Largest is to the left end of base, but not really visible. There is a 1 1/2 in. chip to marble above front left foot.
