19th Century English School Pencil and Watercolor Portrait of Beccles Wheelwright Robert Hellen, unsigned, framed, sight size 10 x 9 1/4 in. Note: According to the consignor: "Artist unknown, portrait of Robert Hellen, watercolor on paper, typed on a piece of paper attached to the reverse is the following: It was painted by a Journeyman Painter, who tried to get all the Beccles tradesmen represented, but his name has been forgotten. Robert Hellen was noted for always wearing a top hat. He made a round of all the Mills, carrying his bag of stones to replace the worn out ones. The scene is said to be taken from the Swine's Green, going up to the old Tower Mill which has been converted into the present Castle Flour Mills. Hellen was a wheelwright from Beccles, England."
