Green and Yellow Paint-decorated Lapped-seam Covered Box, America, 19th century, round box with pine top and bottom and maple lapped-seam sides, the top with a yellow-painted crossed leaf motif, the sides with an undulating leafy vine, on a green ground with yellow-striped borders, the bottom with impressed initials "IA," the interior with an indistinct named inscribed on the underside of the lid, ht. 2 3/4, dia. 5 in. Provenance: Found in an antiques shop in Ipswich, Massachusetts, in 1978.
