Paint-decorated and Carved Bannister-back Armchair, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, last half 18th century, with gilt finials and pinwheel-carved scrolled arm terminals, late 19th century red paint with gilt striping over earlier paint, ht. 47 1/2, seat ht. without cushion 18 in. Provenance: Purchased at a Richard Withington auction. It came out of a house in Alton Bay, New Hampshire.
