Fine Carved and String-inlaid Cherry Slant-lid Desk, possibly Connecticut River Valley, late 18th century, the lid with a large carved fan opens to an interior of eight valanced compartments centering a fan-carved drawer with the initials "TH," all above a double bank of five above three drawers, on a cockbeaded case of four graduated drawers on dovetailed bracket base, old refinish with mellow patina, (minor imperfections), ht. 42 1/4, wd. 37, dp. 18 in. secondary cherry and white pine; interior drawer with unintelligible pencil inscription, small patch to right rear bracket. There is a separation near the front lid support.
