American School, Early 19th Century Pair of Portrait Miniatures of a Little Girl with a Basket of Roses and a Boy Holding a Book, c. 1815. Unsigned. Watercolor on card, three-quarter length oval portraits, 3 3/8 x 2 3/4 in., in matching black-painted molded wood frames with eglomise mats. Condition: Minor surface grime and foxing. Provenance: Sold at Sotheby Parke Bernet, September 15, 1979. It appears that the portraits were originally painted in an oval. While the paint on the llittle girl goes right to the edges, there is a little curved unpainted space on the bottom of the boy. The oval cards are spot -glued to a paper backing, Some foxing above boy's head.
