French, 19th century. Pair of copperplate engravings of Classical figural sculptures depicting Alessandro Magno and Guilio Cesare by Charles Othon Frederic Jean-Baptiste, Comte de Clarac (French, 1777-1847). Engravings published by Imprimerie Nationale in Paris, France between 1826 and 1853. Comte de Clarac was a French artist, scholar, and archaeologist; these prints show his unique talents in these separate but related fields. In 1818, he served as conservator of antiquities at the Louvre. Beside working on numerous publications for the the Louvre, he dedicated his time and financial resources to writing and publishing "Musee de sculpture antique et modern, 1826-1853". Sadly, he was not able to finish the large writing and research project prior to his death in 1847. Works in unmatched frames. Magno framed 15.5" x 11.3". Cesar approximately 15.5" x 11.9". Sheet size approximately 14" x 10".
