Leon Jean Basile Perrault (French, 1832-1908) Le Petit Frère Signed and dated "L-Perrault- 89" l. r. Oil on canvas, 24 1/2 x 17 3/4 in. (62.2 x 45.0 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, varnish inconsistencies. Provenance: A private Florida collection. Varnish inconsistencies in a rectangular area around the signature seem to suggest that the area was left uncleaned during conservation. Veil of retouch over the mother's face. 1/4 inch diameter spot of retouch to the mother's forehead, a small spot over her left eye lid, and touches to her hair. MInor retouch to the baby to give definition to ear and fingers. Retouch to legs of the stnading child, more pronounced at the calf and ankle of the left leg. Possible old abrasion to u.l. corner at very top edge. Overall craquelure appears stable.
