Daniel Brush (American, b. 1947) Koald 95: Yamamba Titled, signed, dated, and inscribed "...Daniel Brush 1982...11" on the reverse. Ink on wove paper, 60 1/2 x 40 1/4 in. (153.7 x 102.2 cm), unframed. Condition: Deckled edges. Literature: Daniel Brush and Ralph Esmerian, Daniel Brush: Gold Without Boundaries (Harry N. Abrams, 1998), p. 61. N.B. Brush's works are largely meditations on the passage of time, influenced by his lifelong study of Japanese Zen Buddhism and Noh theater. The present work is one of 105 Koald paintings created by Brush from 1973 to 1997. His Koald works are comprised of hundreds of meditatively placed lines, created without the aid of sketches and in one time frame. Of his process, Brush notes: "When I paint, I am in shape. I think right. I work. I have in my mind when I am working where I am going. The paint makes itself..." (1) (1) Brush and Esmerian, 41. No condition issues to report.
