British School, 19th Century Pointer in a Landscape Unsigned, titled on a label affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvas, 24 x 29 in. (61.0 x 73.9 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, craquelure, surface grime. Label on the reverse listed the work as School of Ben Marshall, but the information has been crossed out. Stable craquelure overall. Painting has been trimmed of its original tacking edges and lined, with resulting flattening of impasto. Under UV light, there is a milky varnish overall, with retouch evident in the l.l. corner in an area measuring 3 x 7 inches at its maximum dimension. Further scattered retouch (about 1/2 dozen dots) to the sky u.r., with the largest dot measuring 1/2 inch diameter. Retouch also to the very outer edges of the trimmed canvas.
