Edward Moran (American, 1829-1901) Waves on a Rocky Shore Signed "Edward Moran" l. l. Oil on canvas, 26 x 44 1/8 in. (66.0 x 112.0 cm), framed. Condition: Punctures, scattered retouch, paint losses, craquelure, surface grime. Provenance: Collection of Victoria (née Frelinghuysen) Bates (1907-2002); by family descent to the present owners. Identified on a partial label from American Art Association/Anderson Galleries, Inc., affixed to the stretcher. There are two tears (approximately 1 inch each) in the lower right quadrant. There are also several losses, most with some retouch. The craquelure is stable but has some very subtle cupping just beginning. The surface hace scattered bloom.
