Hazel Finck (American, 1894-1977) U. S.O. , 1943 Signed "finck" l.r., identified on the artist's label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 25 x 30 in. (63.5 x 76.2 cm), framed. Condition: Minor surface grime, minor abrasions. Exhibitions: 11th Annual Exhibition, Irvington Art and Museum Association, Irvington, New Jersey, 1944. Inverted L-shaped abrasion measuring 3 inches across and 6 inches down located c.r. Scattered abrasions to l.r. corner to right of signature. Abrasion with small area of retouch located just above the right knee of the figure ascending the stairs. Small paint loss u.l. corner. Surface irregularities u.c., visible in raking light, that read almost like patches but are probably pentimento of an undersketch. Surface accretion to u.r. edge. Subtle rippling.
