Robert Motherwell (American, 1915-1991) Plate 9 from THE BASQUE SUITE , 1970, edition of 150 (Terenzio & Belknap, 58). Initialed and numbered "RM 136/150" in pencil l.r., signed within the matrix. Screenprint in orange and black with embossed double plate marks on paper, image size 20 1/2 x 17 in. (52.0 x 43.1 cm), framed. Condition: Rippling, not examined out of frame. Provenance: A private Massachusetts collection. The size including the outer "plate mark" is 28 x 22 1/4 inches. Out of its frame, the sheet measures 40 3/4 x 28 1/4 in. and has all deckled edges. The lower edge has been folded under to fit the frame by about 1/2 inch, and has a small tear in the under-folded portion. The upper and right edges are folded under by 1 1/4 in. The sheet has the artist's dry stamp l.r., and his hinged with multiple pieces of white cloth tape along the upper edge.
