Note: From the estate of the reknowned minerologist Doctor Frederick Pough. Doctor Pough was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1906. While at Harvard, he taught minerology, and then took a position as Assistant Curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. During the Second World War he worked as a field mineralogist for the Manhattan Project in Brazil, where he prospected for uranium. He became chairman of the Department of Geology and Mineralogy after the war, and from 1955 to 1964 he was President of Gem Irradiation Laboratories in New York, doing pioneering work on the irradiation of diamonds. He was a respected member of numerous minerological societies and professional organizations. Dr. Pough also authored numerous books and hundreds of articles including A Field Guide to Rocks and Minerals and All About Volcanos and Earthquakes .
