Charles Lemoine (French, b. 1839), "Man with Eagle", cast bronze sculpture. Figural sculpture depicting a shirtless man in rolled trousers standing on rocks with his arm raised holding a dagger and the other arm keeping a winged eagle at distance, talons dig into figure's side. Sculpture may relate to the Classical mythological story of Ganymede, a beautiful mortal from Troy who was abducted by the god Zeus in the form of an eagle to serve as cup bearer on Mount Olympus. Work signed on lower right "LEMOINE". Further raised on a black marble rectangular plinth with canted corners. Height of bronze 25.5", width 12". Base measures 13.25" x 9.75".
