Silk and Wool Sampler, England or America, dated 1830, worked by Mary Townsend "aged 10," with the verse, "See a stranger comes to view/Though he black he comely too/Comes to join the choirs above/Singing of redeeming love/welcome negro welcome here/banish doubt and banish fear/you who Christ salvation prove/praise and bless redeeming love," surrounding figures in a landscape, with foliate border, framed, sight size 13 x 16 in. N.B. The verse was taken from a hymn transcribed by Legh Richmond (English, 1772-1827) in Annals of the Poor , and describes a white congregation welcoming a black man.
