Cherry Tall Case Clock, Daniel Balch, Newbury, Massachusetts, active from 1756, the brass tombstone dial with cast brass spandrels, silvered boss in the arch engraved with an eagle and the phrase "Tempus Fugit," above the silvered chapter ring, seconds hand, calendar aperture, and a panel engraved "Dan. l Balch/Newbury," with brass eight-day weight-driven movement, the interior of the case bears a handwritten label signed by Joseph James in 1766, reading in part "made by Daniel Balch at Newbury," and includes information about instructions for use and the purchase of a clock, refinished, (restoration), ht. 83 in.
