Carved Cherry Slant-lid Desk, Connecticut River Valley, late 18th century, the slant-lid with inlaid burl escutcheon opens to an interior of a shell-carved central drawer above two short drawers, flanked by document drawers, short drawers, and valanced compartments, old refinish, replaced brasses, (minor imperfections), ht. 46, wd. 36 1/2, dp. 20 in. Provenance: According to an old handwritten label in the shell-carved drawer, the desk descended from Edmund Langley, born Groton, Massachusetts, 1746, died Hawley, Massachusetts, 1842. An old photograph of the house where the desk originally was is included in the lot.
