Antique Natural Pearl Necklace, composed of 353 pearls ranging in size from approx. 3.50 to 4.80 mm, completed by an old mine-cut diamond barrel clasp, lg. 57 1/4 in., within a heart-shape box for Marcus & Co. Note: Accompanied by a Pearl Report from The Gem & Pearl Laboratory dated July 5, 2013, stating that the pearls are natural, saltwater. Provenance: Lucretia Perry Osborn from her husband Henry Fairfield Osborn on their 25th wedding anniversary. Henry Fairfield Osborn was a renowned geologist and paleontologist, and presidednt of the American Museum of Natural History for twenty-five years. He described and named the Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1905, and the Velociraptor in 1924, and won numerous awards for his work in paleontology. Lucretia Perry Osborn, a descendant of Commodore Perry, was described in her obituary as "a mother as well as a hostess, society woman, authoress, traveler, and 'ideal wife'"; a "Genuine Grand Dame".
