George Loring Brown (American, 1814-1889) Near Sun Set / A View of Capri Signed and dated "Geo. L. Brown 1876" l.r., titled, inscribed, signed, and dated "...View of Capri. Island of Capri/near Naples. Vesuvius/in the Distance/Painted by Geo. L. Brown/1876-7.8." on the reverse. Oil on canvas, 28 1/8 x 47 7/8 in. (71.5 x 121.5 cm), stretched with Boston tabs on a Frost and Adams stretcher, in a period frame. Condition: Losses, craquelure, accretions, surface grime. Provenance: Gift of a Boston, Massachusetts, attorney to Mr. Leo Deuterio, Brighton, Massachusetts, c. 1950, to the current owner by family descent.
