Continental School, 19th Century Rulers and Generals, a Historical Pastiche Unsigned. Oil on canvas, 19 3/4 x 16 in. (50.0 x 40.5 cm), framed. Condition: Old retouch, craquelure, surface grime. N.B. This painting portrays naive-style images of historical figures of power, such as Napoleon, and includes vignettes of their rise and fall, arranged across a mountain. At the top of the mountain there is an allegorical figure of a woman, wearing a blindfold, and holding a crown in one hand and a scythe in the other.
